Nutrient composition, fermentation characteristics and mass balance of press juice and press cake obtained from biorefining of grass-clover and red clover silage

The findings from this study highlight the potential of utilizing press juice and press cake obtained from biorefining of grass-clover and red clover silage as protein-rich feed for farm animals. Despite some limitations in the nutrient composition of press juice compared to other protein-rich feeds, efforts to improve its nutritive value could lead to reduced reliance on human-edible feed sources in pig and poultry production. Additionally, the successful re-ensiling of press cake with good fermentation characteristics suggests a flexible storage option for utilizing these by-products in ruminant feeding. Overall, this research contributes to the development of sustainable feed production methods that can help optimize resource utilization in livestock farming.
